German Airline Slates Service

The German airline, Air Berlin, has scheduled flights from Dusseldorf to Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste province, to begin in November.

Germany is an important source of European travelers, second only to Spain. In 2010, out of 225,000 visitors that arrived in the Liberia airport, German tourists accounted for slightly more than a thousand.

Tourism Minister Allan Flores told the business newspaper El Financiero that the Air Berlin flights are the fruit of negotiations begun last March at the ITB tourism fair in Berlin.

Air Berlin is Germany's second largest airline, serving 163 destinations in 39 countries. The Guanacaste route also has a stop in Cancun, Mexico.
